1. What happens on a tour?
Our morning tours start at 0900h. Lunch is served midway through the tour -- field-cooked with the sand as our carpet and the sky as our roof! We aim to finish all tours by 1300hrs.
Our new afternoon tour slots allow you to enjoy a bit of sunset, and are from 1400-1800h. Tea will be served midway through the tour.
2. Do I need any experience or kayaking 'Stars' to participate?
No, you don't! You just need an open attitude to learn and enjoy the great outdoors... Kayaking is a simple sport enjoyable by all, and we will guide you how paddle if you've never used one before. Many participants last kayaked in secondary school, and some never at all -- but everyone comes out loving it at the end!
3. Safe annot? Must I be able to swim?
We seldom have open-water capsizes on our tandem kayaks, because our inflatables are bouyant and stable. Even if you end up being our 'lucky customer', you will be wearing PFDs, so you'll stay afloat and be rescued by our trained guides.
4. Can I bring my kids? How about dogs?
We accept kids 3 years of age and above. They should be able to keep still in the seat and listen to simple instructions. Kids must seat with their caregivers in a double / triple kayak. We do not take children below 16 without their parents.
We have brought out pet dogs a few times and it's lots of fun. We have triple-seater kayaks, meaning your fur friends can comfortably sit in with two pax paddling. We recommended just a light meal for them prior, as some dogs have vomited inside the kayaks before.
Dogs are not allowed on our southern (Sentosa) routes, as the currents there can be strong. Take note, you need to be a strong paddler to carry the extra weight of a heavy dog. We have ended up towing some weak kayakers with dogs and it's no fun and not fair to the other participants as well.
5. What if I can't make it last minute?
- If you pull out of Group Tours more than 3 days (72 hours) before, your downpayment will be fully transferable to a new booking date. It will not be refundable if you cannot / choose not to make a new booking.
- If you pull out of Group Tours less than 3 days (72 hours) before, and it had already reached the cap of 16 pax, your downpayment will not be refundable nor transferable to a new booking. This is because your reserved slot/s had prevented others from signing up. You may book a new tour with us, with a 10% discount for repeat customers.
- For Private Tours, pricing per person is based on numbers kayaking. The final charge will be readjusted based on the numbers present that day.
6. Rain how?
If there is heavy rain at the start of the tour, we may postpone the trip. You may find a new date based on your availability. Downpayments are non-refundable if you cannot / choose not to make it on another date.
If rain comes mid-way through, sorry -- we usually do not turn around. Unless there is lightning safety threat, we will continue on the tour and no refunds would be made after that. If we do have to turn around due to whatever reason, 50% is refundable.
7. What are Group Tours and Private Tours?
Group Tours can take up to 18 pax on a join-in basis. Sign up is on a first-paid first-served basis. Find an available tour here and contact us to make a downpayment to confirm your seat.
For Private Tours, it will be kept to just your group. Pricing is based on how many pax you want to bring out paddling.
8. How many participants can join a tour?
We can take up to 20pax, or according to prevailing Covid guidelines. You will be split into groups according to the Covid regulations, with 1 guide to care for up to 3 - 4 boats. Kids of any age are counted as 1 pax for safety and logistics reasons.
9. What kayaks are used?
We use inflatables from Itiwit (UK): good quality, highly buoyant, and stable-- we've never had a open water capsize on a tandem boat in 10 years of leading tours! If you want to bring your own kayak and join us on our tours, this is possible at 30% off.
10. Single / Double / Triple Seating?
Priced listed ($120 pp) are for double / triple seating.
I.e. if you come as a group of 2, you will seat 2 to a kayak.
If you come as a group of 3, you will either:
a) Seat 3 to a kayak (though this can get a bit tight with 3 adults), or
b) The 3rd person may be paired with another single kayaker, or
c) If you opt for a single kayak, a top-up fee of $50 applies. You may be seated in either a regular kayak or a SUP.
11. Any insurance provided?
We have Public Liability insurance for our own operations. We recommend you to get your own accident insurance plan before engaging in outdoor sports. Our guides are trained kayakers, so you are in good hands. But as with all activities (including crossing the road), you may injure yourself if you aren't careful. It will be easier to claim from your accident insurance than through our PL policy.
12. Can I kayak when pregnant?
No. At sea or in the river, you will be far away from medical help if something goes wrong. If you turn up pregnant, you will be asked to stay on land, and your downpayment will not be refundable.
13. What's for lunch? And where?
NK's unique offering that few other operators do, is our mid-tour meals! For lunch, we hot-cook a simple but scrumptious outdoor meal of instant noodles (halal), egg, and veg. Vegetarians can opt out of eggs. This will be done usually on a remote beach or mangrove, with no one else around.
